Replace or repair your existing car key Grand Rapids MI

If your only car key is lost, we can help.  Once we have the year, make & model of your vehicle, we'll match your car with the perfect key replacement.  Currently there are nearly as many different keys as there are cars they fit.

Some cars only need a simple key (no transponder chip) and others require a transponder chip and for the newest models a fobic (no blade) key or a smart key (for push button start).

We pride ourselves on having a wide range of keys available; and if we don't have it in stock, we can usually get it overnight!

What about a broken key or remote?  Unfortunately, any key can have a hairline crack that eventually gives way.  You probably won't even know it is cracked until it breaks and suddenly you are holding 2 pieces of a key.

Often remote head keys or flip keys falls apart.  You might even lose the key blade.

We have solutions! Rather than have to replace the entire key or remote, we will try to use the parts you have left and repair it -- essentially creating a new key for less than a full replacement.

Don't hesitate to call and find out.  We'll ask you to text a pic of what is left and advise the best way to get your vehicle moving again.

What about programming my car key Grand Rapids MI ?

I'm not sure if I can program the key myself or I would need a locksmith to do it.  We have that covered too.  Most vehicles require the assistance of a locksmith for programming, but some vehicles can be programmed without the help of a locksmith.  In these cases, we give you the option of picking up the key (with basic DIY instructions) or purchasing the key with a package that includes programming right at the vehicle (the best part of this option, is we bring the key to you and make sure it's running.)

How much will this cost?

The price of your key will depend of what type of key you have!  Just give us a call for a quote.

A few newer model cars and most older cars are equipped with plain metal key or mechanical key (no transponder chip). These keys don't require the new key be programmed to your vehicle

Most newer cars are equipped with transponder keys. (These keys have a transponder chip embedded into the head of the key). Transponder keys were created to eliminate car theft. If anyone tries to start your car without the transponder key, the car will shut down and some will become completely immobilized.

My key and remote all one piece. (Remote Head Keys). For this type of key it is a transponder key with the remote attached right to the head of the key.

Fobic or Smart Keys are the newest generation of keys.  The Fobic key plugs into the dash to start the car, or in the case of a  Smart Key (Proximity Key) it only needs to be in close proximity to the dash board and car starts with a push button.

When we create replacement car keys for your car (from the car's VIN - Vehicle ID #), the new key needs to be programmed to your vehicle and the car's computer to allow the key to work. We come to you to program the new key.

Most car dealers only keep these codes for 10 years. Even if they have your code, they will require (in the case of a transponder key) that you have the vehicle towed to their location to program the key to the vehicle.

Some GM vehicles (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile & Pontiac, approximately 1990 - 1999, and even as late as 2004 for Buick Century, Regal and a few others were built with a VATS key system (a small black transistor on the blade of the key).  Since many vehicles of this age are still on the road, this is another type of key you could have.

If you need to know what kind of car key you have (mechanical or transponder) just give us a call.

We'll look it up and price a new one for you!

Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep car key replacements.  Some of the 90's and early 2000's on the road today, are not equipped with transponder keys systems. These mechanical keys can be copied easily or replaced in the shop (without the vehicle).  The transponder keys (without a remote head) can be copied in the shop or "cloned" so the transponder chip is copied and transferred into the 2nd key -- both the original and the clone copy will now start the car. Remote head keys and newer key fobs are more complex.  Rarely can these newer generation car keys be replaced without the vehicle present.  For copies you can bring the car in.  For lost, stolen, or missing keys, we will need to be at the vehicle to replace the key.  Call ahead to make sure we have your specific car key or fob in stock.

Ford, Lincoln & Mercury car key replacements.  Vehicles from the late 90's, 2000's and up are almost all transponder chip equipped. Exceptions would includes some of the trucks or vans.  If you have a mechanical car key (non-transponder) we can easily copy your existing key or secure the key code for your car and replace your original key.  For transponder keys (without a remote head) they can be copied in the shop or "cloned" so the transponder chip is copied and transferred into the 2nd key -- both the original and the clone copy will now start the car. The newer remote head keys will require that the vehicle be present -- for a copy of the key, you can come to us or for replacement will come to you and replace and program the new key on the spot.  Call ahead to make sure we have your specific car key or fob in stock.

General Motors; Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Hummer & Saturn car key replacements.  If you have a car from the earlier years (90's or 2000's in the case of SUV or Trucks), or your car is not equipped with a transponder key, you can come and pick up your new key, go home and start the car.  Transponder chip systems require programming.  If it's an extra copy you need, just bring us the car and we'll help you program it or you can take the instructions and do it yourself.  On the newest vehicles with flip keys, self-programming is not an option. For an extra key, bring the vehicle to us or if your key is lost, we'll come to you and get the job done.  Call ahead to make sure we have your specific car key or fob in stock.
